Now streaming on Tubi, the independent feature challenges narrow beauty standards while showing full-figured women as romantic, ambitious and multidimensional leading characters.
ATLANTA, GA — In an entertainment industry where plus-size Black women are too often pushed to the margins, reduced to supporting roles or treated as the punchline, the independent feature film Full-Figured Flings places them exactly where they belong: at the center of the story.
Written by Lillie Mae Jones-Perry and directed by D. Dominique Perry and Naomi K. Bonman, Full-Figured Flings is now streaming on Tubi. Produced in Atlanta, Georgia, the film combines friendship, romance, fashion and social commentary to explore the experiences of women who refuse to shrink themselves to fit society’s expectations.
The story follows Amber and Lauren, two Black plus-sized models whose friendship is tested when they uncover colorist practices within their modeling agency. What begins as a professional conflict soon forces the women to confront discrimination, personal insecurities and unexpected challenges that threaten the bond they have built.
Rather than presenting its leading women as side characters in someone else’s journey, Full-Figured Flings allows Amber and Lauren to experience ambition, vulnerability, attraction, conflict and personal growth on their own terms.

The film’s creator, Lillie Mae Jones-Perry, developed the project after repeatedly seeing full-figured women overlooked or portrayed through limiting stereotypes in film and television. She wanted to create a story in which women with fuller bodies could be seen as desirable, complicated, fashionable and worthy of leading roles.
“Purpose over popularity,” said Jones-Perry. “This film was created with intention. We wanted to tell a story that reflects real people, real bodies and real experiences. Too often, women who do not fit traditional standards are overlooked, minimized or cast aside. Full-Figured Flings exists to remind audiences that everyone deserves to see themselves as the lead character in their own story.”
That message extends beyond body size. Through the experiences of its characters, the film also addresses colorism and the ways darker- and lighter-skinned Black women can be compared, divided or treated differently within the same industry.
By confronting those realities through the relationship between Amber and Lauren, Full-Figured Flings explores how systems built on exclusion can damage friendships while encouraging women to compete against one another. The film ultimately emphasizes solidarity, self-acceptance and the importance of standing together against discrimination.
The project arrives as audiences continue demanding more authentic representation from Hollywood and independent filmmakers. Although conversations surrounding diversity have grown, stories that center Black plus-size women as complete human beings remain noticeably limited.
Full-Figured Flings helps fill that gap by showing that representation is not simply about placing different bodies on screen. It is also about giving those characters meaningful dialogue, emotional depth, romantic possibilities, personal agency and stories that do not revolve entirely around changing their appearance.
Created by Atlanta-based filmmakers and supported by the city’s independent creative community, the film also reflects the growing influence of storytellers who are no longer waiting for traditional studios to validate their ideas.
Through independent production and distribution, the team behind Full-Figured Flings has created a project that entertains audiences while encouraging deeper conversations about beauty, identity, friendship, colorism and who is allowed to be seen.
