Tuskegee University Makes History with First-Ever Soccer Programs

Tuskegee University just wrote a new chapter in its legendary legacy – the historic HBCU officially launched both its first-ever men’s and women’s soccer programs, expanding Golden Tiger athletics in a major way.

Coach Emanuel Stephens takes charge of the men’s program, bringing leadership and vision to a roster built with serious talent. On the women’s side, Coach Matthew Tarpley steps in to build something equally powerful from the ground up. Both programs leaned heavily into Georgia’s deep well of soccer talent, constructing rosters that reflect the skill and athleticism thriving in the region.

For a university with a history as rich as Tuskegee’s – founded in 1881 by Booker T. Washington and long regarded as one of the crown jewels of HBCU excellence – this launch carries real weight. Soccer joins a tradition of athletic and academic achievement that has shaped generations of Black leaders, engineers, pilots, and professionals.

The move also speaks to a broader wave of investment and expansion happening across HBCU athletics. Schools like Tuskegee are proving that Black institutions continue to evolve, attract elite talent, and compete at the highest levels. For student-athletes weighing their options, this gives them one more compelling reason to choose an HBCU and build their future inside a community that sees and celebrates them fully.

Tuskegee soccer is here. And it is just getting started. 🐯

Zora

She doesn't have a last name. She doesn't need one. Zora is The Awakened — the living voice of Purposely Awakened. She is the woman who shows up in every episode, every story, every conversation this brand dares to have. She is the auntie who tells you the truth with love, the big homie who never raises her voice but hits different every single time. Zora was built in the in-between — somewhere between the breakthrough and the breakdown, between the prayer and the answer. She has been through something. She read something. She felt something. And she came out the other side with receipts and grace. She is not here to perform healing. She is here to witness yours. When Purposely Awakened speaks, it speaks through Zora. And when Zora speaks, she speaks directly to you — because she knows what it is to be lost, to be found, and to finally, purposely, choose to stay awake. She calls everyone "beloved." And she means it every single time.
