The 10-track set features original songs co-written with producer Kenneth Thompson, with contributions from Paul Gauntlett, Wayne Armond, and Tafina Wilson
Jamdown, the latest album from lovers rock kingpin Sanchez, is out today, April 11, via VPAL Music.
Sanchez—best known for dancehall standards like “Never Dis di Man” and “Loneliness”—describes Jamdown as “extremely intimate and something almost everyone can relate to.”
He and producer Kenneth Thompson co-wrote three tracks on the album: “Hot Girl,” “Disloyalty,” and “Jamdown.” Thompson is the sole writer of the remaining songs, which include “Clean Like A Whistle” and “Desperate Man.”
On the title track, Sanchez reflects on the state of his homeland, Jamaica, while also highlighting its natural beauty and the strength of its people. “I relate to the lyrics of “Jamdown” deeply just because I am a true product of the place,” he says.
In addition to Thompson, Sanchez worked with multi-instrumentalist Paul Gauntlett on the album. Arrangements and harmonies were handled by Wayne Armond of Chalice, along with Tafina Wilson.
Born Kevin Jackson in Kingston, Jamaica, Sanchez is regarded as dancehall royalty. His extensive catalog includes hit songs like “I Can’t Wait,” “Pretty Girl,” “Old Friends,” “One In A Million,” and “Fall In Love.”
He credits divine guidance for his four-decade-long career: “God Almighty is the master of this universe. He has kept me thus far and staying true to Him allows me to be true to my music,” said Sanchez.
